Dance Your Way Back Into Shape

Madison has a fun new fitness option that is ideal for getting back into shape and staying that way. It’s called Dance Trance. Created in 1986 by Jay and Beth Handline, new locations are opening all over the country. Wendy Meyer is the owner of the Madison Dance Trance which is located on Highway 72 between Nance and Jeff, and her daughter AshLeigh is the Director.

Wyndie worked at a very high stress job for 20 years. After some life changing events, including her 8 year old son being diagnosed with a brain tumor (he’s fine now), she realized that fun memories are a lot better than a stressful job. She saw how much her daughter enjoyed dancing at Dance Trance in Birmingham where she attends law school.

AshLeigh has danced since she was two. In high school she was on the Bob Jones Color Guard where she choreographed their routines. Then she was part of the Million Dollar Band Color Guard at the University of Alabama. She figured her dancing days were over once she began law school…until she found Dance Trance. Not only did she lose weight, but she also gained self-confidence and found herself addicted to Dance Trance! Together she and her mother have brought this fun new trend to our area.

AshLeigh’s high school Color Guard teammate, Alicia Korte has come on board, too, in the position of manager and evening instructor. Like AshLeigh, Alicia has an extensive background in dance. She also has a very busy life with school and another daytime job at a daycare. Both young women find that Dance Trance is a great way to relieve their day-to-day stress. The two other evening instructors are Kyleen Kirkland and Brittany McCowen. Pamela Matheney teaches classes during the day.

What is Dance Trance?

DanceTrance (DT) is a dance fitness class that offers the excitement of moving with the rhythm and attaining total mind and body deliverance through dance! It incorporates funk, Latin, jazz, hip hop and other types of rhythm movement to the beat of music from all genre’s. People of all ages are welcome to come and groove to the thumpin music!

The regular price is $60.00 a month for unlimited Dance Trance. However, you can take advantage of the “Opening Special” $45.00 through the month of October and for as many consecutive months as you sign up for.

It’s a great way to get back in shape after baby, especially since child care is available during class time! Dance Trance also offers birthday parties for all ages, ladies night out, parents night out, holiday parties and planned get togethers.
