The new Women’s Center at Marshall Medical Center South has been thriving since making its grand opening in November 2007. The center is averaging 60-80 births per month and the rate is expected to pick up. It is equipped with 12 Labor, Delivery, Recovery, and Postpartum (LDRP) rooms, not including 8 general GYN rooms.
Marshall Medical Center South offers separate nursery nurses which gives the new, often exhausted, mothers the option of having their babies cared for in the nursery at any time. The rate of women who have Cesarean births at MMCS is 28% which compares to the national average of 31.1%. Approximately 50-60% of women who give birth naturally take epidurals.
Breastfeeding is encouraged at MMCS, and even though mothers are not asked after they leave the hospital whether they still breastfeed, about 50% of new mothers try to do so in the hospital. In order to better educate new mothers about the benefits and proper techniques of breastfeeding, the hospital employs many nurses who have completed courses and are knowledgeable of the process.
The 65,000 square foot Women’s Center has many technological capabilities, and provides state-of-the-art care to women and their little bundles of joy.
